Aluminium 2024 pipes are mainly made of aluminium (90–94%) with significant amounts of copper (3.8–4.9%), magnesium (1.2–1.8%), and manganese (0.3–0.9%). These alloys provide high tensile strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and good toughness, but their corrosion resistance is moderate. The pipes show good machinability but are less weldable than other alloys. They can be heat-treated to achieve yield strengths up to 325 MPa and tensile strengths up to 470 MPa, making them suitable for applications that require a strong strength-to-weight ratio in demanding operating conditions.
