SAE 1026 tubing is a low carbon, seamless steel grade containing mainly about 0.22–0.28% carbon, 0.60–0.90% manganese, and traces of phosphorus and sulfur. The composition offers an ideal blend of strength, ductility, and weldability. Mechanically, it has a tensile strength range of 415–550 MPa, yield strength of 290 MPa, and favorable elongation characteristics, usually around 25%. The tubing is readily machinable and may be heat-treated to enhance its strength.
